Economic Impact Guide

The Impact Guide deals with assessing the economic impacts of sport/recreation/cultural events/facilities. It outlines the connection between events/facilities that attract visitors and the economic impacts these visitors can have on the local economy. If you are interested in investigating the economic impact of your event/facility, the first step is contact Dr. Brian VanBlarcom of the Economics Department of Acadia University, Email brian.vanblarcom@acadiau.ca, (Telephone: 902 585 1137). In consultation with Brian, a data collection strategy will be devised. Your group/agency will then implement the data collection strategy to gather information on visitors to the event/facility. The data will then be used by Dr. VanBlarcom and students at Acadia University to complete an economic impact assessment. A final report will be produced for the group/agency and an electronic copy added to the AVESTA website. Examples of local event/facility economic impact reports currently on the AVESTA website can be accessed here.

The AVESTA website also serves a source of information related to sport/event tourism with links to a number of very useful and informative websites. It is the hoped that the AVESTA website and the Impact Guide will spark interest in the subject area and provide an efficient mechanism for the completion of many more economic impact studies related to sports/cultural events in the Annapolis Valley.
